March is the month of sweet indulgence!
Join us on March 25th as we celebrate Sweden’s Waffle Day. Topped with syrup, fruit or chocolate… it is up to you!
The Waffle Day (Swedish: Våffeldagen) is a tradition that is celebrated in Sweden, on March 25. The day actually celebrates the Feast of the Annunciation. However it all started as a religious celebration, with time it has become the Waffle Day due to a pronunciation issue. The Swedish word, Vårfrudagen, meaning “Our Lady’s Day” , sounds very similar to the word Våffeldagen (“waffle day”)
That said, over time Swedes began calling it Waffle Day and celebrating it by eating waffles.
So why not getter our expat community and celebrate the sweetness of this special day together? The Café Järntorget in the traditional Gamla Stan is told to have one of the best waffles in town.
We are looking forward to see you there!
