Register for your Swedish course this Fall semester

Beginners Courses for Masters Students

As part of your studies at Chalmers you are given the opportunity to study Swedish through Grow Internationals. You have several alternatives to choose from, depending on your schedule and learning pace. All courses are aimed for complete beginners and will have the option to be taken online or in person.

Grow Internationals language learning is built by expats and always focused on developing conversation skills and being able to use Swedish in everyday situations while gaining a cultural orientation of Sweden at the same time. We believe in networks and socializing to learn more about the culture and to get practical use of the language. All participants in the Swedish courses will be given free access to Grow Internationals' social events organized in Gothenburg during the fall semester.

We offer 3 different types of paces for the Swedish courses; intensive, fast paced and normal paced.

If you want to progress fast and have a basic command of Swedish before the semester starts you should go for the Sumer Intensive Online Course.
If you want to study during the semester but at a faster pace with quicker progression, you should sign up for the Fast Paced Course.
If you feel that you need more time and have lessons less frequently and spread over the entire semester you should choose the Normal Paced Course.

All course options require active participation. The amount of homework and assignments will vary depending on if you are taking a fast paced or a normal paced course.

To register for a Swedish course please take the following steps:

View the different alternatives offered below and decide which one you'd prefer to take
Register your first and second choice of available courses
Complete the registration and receive a confirmation email
Before 29th July you will receive a final confirmation of the course assigned to you along with all the details to get started

These courses are free of charge for all masters students who have paid the tuition fee for fall semester 2023.

FAQ

Yes, you can always change your registration by submitting a new one. We will only take into account the last submitted registration. Remember that the submission date will be taken into consideration when allocation participants to the different groups. The earlier you submit your registration, the higher possibility of getting your first choice. Registrations made after the deadline will only be taken into consideration if there is room left in any group.

Registrations for the Swedish course will be processed as they are received. All applications received before July 15th will have the option for courses within the preferred course times selected. Participants are assigned to courses by the principle first come, first served. This means that the later you register, the less chance of getting your first choice of course. Any registrations received after July 15th will be placed in the remaining course times that are available.

We are aware that many internationals may have difficulties in coming to Sweden in time of the semester to start. That is also why we offer an online course option and you can attend from wherever you are. If you are registered to take a course in Gothenburg and it conflicts with your Masters schedule, we ask that you notify us as soon as possible. After September 8th all registrations will become final.

No. For our In-person courses you will receive the hard copy (physical textbook) for your course studies. If you are attending an online course you will receive a digital textbook and online courses materials. If you are attending one of the online courses you will be issued digital copies a few days before the start of your course. If you are taking the course in person you will receive the materials on your first day of class.

The number of lessons received in a fast paced course will be the same number of lessons in a normal paced course. However, the fast paced courses will be completed in a much shorter time period of 10 weeks. The fast paced courses require more intense studies and may have more homework than the normal paced course. If you need more time for other studies, we advise you to choose the normal paced course.
